A leading pharmaceutical company, having one of its manufacturing setups in Himachal Pradesh, invited People Factor to conduct a retreat for its young managers. They named it ‘Team Workshop’ however, on deeper probing we understood, that the objective is slightly larger than just teaming. The group was intended to be the torch bearer in the plant for leading various projects. They also needed to appreciate the need for inspiring excellence and motivating team members reporting in to them.
As there were more than one or two objectives, we had to work out a program where by we assessed on each of these dimensions where the group stood and then design the program to be able to address each issue that the group was facing. We used a standardized and validated tool to measure 10 dimensions of effectiveness of the team.
Organizational Pride
Performance Excellence
Team Work
Leadership
Profitability
Colleague Relations
Customer Relations
Innovation
Training
Openness
The average of the group on each of these dimensions is depicted in the following graph
Very clearly the key stumbling blocks were Team Work, Colleague Relations, openness & Leadership. The program was designed such that each of the ten dimensions was touched upon particularly the ones identified above. The methodology of experiential learning was followed. Participants went through various enthralling & engaging experiences and later got into intense discussions revealing where they were going wrong despite high engagement. They worked out action steps for improvement and took back projects that each one owned and committed to carry through.
