This is what two of the 70 participants had to say at the end of the two- day outbound workshop for one of the largest IT consulting organizations. Though there was a list of objectives given to us, we had a detailed discussion with Ajay, the head of this ‘Learning Solutions Group’. At the end of the discussion, we gauged the seriousness with which each member was engaged in this pursuit of bringing the people together. To top it, the workshop had a deeper and a more fundamental objective of “beginning to Institutionalize Empowerment”. This made our task more interesting and surely more challenging!

The key stakeholders in the whole process were the managers & the team members. The managers had to learn to give way and the team members had to learn to take responsibility and ownership. And the fountainhead of both was for them to realize their own true potential, to articulate their fears & inhibitors. All this had to go parallel with the overt stated objective of bonding a team that was geographically & culturally apart.

We spent a lot of time on rigorous planning of activities & debriefing. The extremely high energy and engagement of the group actually facilitated immense learning. Finally, at the euphoric end of the workshop, that nagging feeling surfaced… “What after this?” And the next thing we heard was that the group head and managers were meeting early next morning to wrap up the program with clear steps towards changes and would commit the same to the whole group!
